Are Freebies really free? Well, on one side, yes, on the other, no. There are a good number of people who are still very skeptical when the issue of freebies is mentioned. While this is so, there are others on the other hand that believe in freebies and will even take time to hunt for them. So there is a debate as to whether the free stuff given by companies is really free. That is actually the point of this article; to clear the doubts and state facts openly.
If we take time to consider why companies give free things or even organize free events, we may find some important clue as to whether the goods they claim to be free are indeed free. The major reason why there is usually free stuff from different companies is to market the products.
To popularize new products, a company may resolve to give small quantities of the products to customers for trial. Such free products are called free samples. They are given with the hope that once they are used the customers will get to like them thus make further purchases. These products are totally free and are solely given for the purpose of promoting the given product. They do not have strings attached.
Another reason a company may be offering freebies is to create a good relationship with the customers. In this case, the company may give a particular product for free to a customer who buys a given product. It may be viewed as a gift of appreciation which is intended to make the customer come back to the company when they need to buy another product or the same. Like the free samples, the free gifts do not have strings attached.
There are also other forms of free things that companies may give away for diverse reasons. For example, when you buy a bulky thing, say furniture, the sellers may offer to carry the goods for you without any charge. Companies may also organize fun events where there is no entry charge just to have a big audience so that they can advertise a product to them. They may then have things like capes and T-shirts with the brand name of the product they wish to market given absolutely free.
However, caution should be taken as some of the freebies may be carrying hidden charges with them. Good examples are the free interest loans that have become very popular among people buying vehicles. A study actually revealed that people who go for such loans end up paying more than those buying in cash or using other type of loans.
Many people also fall for companies that claim to offer free shipping. What such people don’t realize is that the cost of shipping is passed to them hidden under such names as handling cost or transaction processing fees. In actual sense, the companies may be footing very little of the shipping costs and in most cases, footing for nothing at all. In the end, customers going for the so called freebies may end up paying more that those who opted for cash transactions.
